The ocicat, unlike the bengal has no wildcat blood in its breed.
The ocicat has the wild look with its spots but is purely domestic in origination.
The first ocicat was the result of an accidental breeding between a Chocolate
Point Siamese and an Abyssinian, neither of which were spotted cats. The
name Ocicat came from ocelot, a wild cat having some resemblance in appearance
to the Ocicat. Ocicats are very affectionate and like to follow their
owner around. The breed originated in the 1960's about the same time the
Bengal breed first originated.
The ocicat's personality is even more beautiful then its
spots! And what a surprise the personality is -- about as surprising as
the spots considering the Siamese and Absyssinian origin of this breed.
These cats are amazingly loyal to their owners having a tendency to follow them
everywhere. Of all the domestic breeds the ocicat is said to be the most
even tempered cat. Ocicats get along very well with other animals.
